With so many luxury hotels dominating Rome's cityscape - many with a heavily stylised, baroque element - it can be difficult to find a guesthouse that straddles luxury and simplicity. Residenze Argileto pitches itself just right for those searching for a more pared back look while still enjoying carefully selected Italian design accents. Located in Monti, the quiet, bohemian jewel in Rome's crown, the hotel sits apart from the crowded tourist centre. Monti is a relaxed area with lots of bars and restaurants and is still close enough to the centre that you can walk to most of the main sights. The hotel offers simple, modern rooms with designer furniture pieces and high-quality linens. A nice touch is the smartphones that are placed in each room, allowing guests to navigate locally, use the internet and make calls if required. There's a newly renovated spa, which guests have free access to with the room. The hotel's roof terrace boasts a separate hot tub for those who prefer a soak with a view. The vista from the terrace is beautiful - a perfect place to end your day at this trendy but unpretentious hotel.
