This historical hotel was built in 1909 and still has the Grand-Chateaux façade and historical gate, but inside the hotel, expect well-polished contemporary design with all the 5-star trimmings. The rooms are bright and spacious with wonderful city views from the large sash windows. The design is a perfect mix of contemporary and traditional styles and the palette is soft with floral details. Marble bathrooms are an indulgent affair complete with deep baths and rain showers. The 1500 sq.ft wellness centre with both indoor and outdoor pools, steam rooms, saunas, hot tubs and a small fitness suite is a real draw here. As is the restaurant which boasts Michelin-star Marc Haeberlin as its head chef. The Alsatian dishes are delicious and the Swiss wines to match are unsurprisingly good. For something more casual – head upstairs to the Sky Terrace for simple tapas and a lovely panoramic view at night. Well placed just a short five minutes up the hill to the centre of Lausanne for shopping and down the hill is Lake Geneva. A classic stay.

Tucked away in the residential district between Lausanne’s centre and lakeside, the Royal Savoy has much to offer those in the know. A historic building with a contemporary sheen, its many assets include a rooftop bar, lovely gardens and a large spa with a vast menu of treatments.
