“Dating back to 1682 this traditional farmhouse provides some old-world charm accompanied by some new-world wines. Dine at Catharina’s or the relaxed but equally sophisticated Bistro Sixteen82. Modern luxuries come in the form of a pool, spa, and golf course. Lavish rooms complete the stay.”

Hotel Review
Located on the Cape’s first farm (est.1682), Steenberg Hotel offers faultless hospitability, fine food and wines amid beautiful vineyards. Dotted around the grounds are modern colourful sculptures by South African artist Edoardo Villa, a contrast to the whitewashed buildings. The staff are fantastic and always one step ahead in an entirely unobtrusive manner. The bedrooms have freshly-cut flowers and luxurious linen, while recently refurbished bathrooms are contemporary with organic products. Situated in the original winery, Catharina’s restaurant offers fine dining and delicious breakfasts. Alternatively, hop on the shuttle – or meander through the vines on foot or by bicycle – to sample the wines at Bistro Sixteen82 with its tapas-style menu. Back at the hotel, there’s a swimming pool, an 18-hole golf course and spa, while a shuttle will take you to nearby locations if you can tear yourself away from relaxing within the grounds.

Steenberg Farm
Travellers regularly vote Steenberg – a luxury hotel situated in Constantia, the closest wine-growing region to Cape – as their favourite luxury hotel in Africa, and with good reason. Renovations have been sensitive to its 17th-century roots, but contemporary facilities, such as a pool, mean it's a cut above.
