Warning: these cabins were made with small people in mind. But if you’re willing to forego spaciousness, you’ll be amply rewarded by the unfussy stylishness of The Birder’s Lodge. The reception - a striking, rectangular cube containing only a desk and chair - sets the tone for the hotel’s aesthetic emphasis on unusual design. The five cabins dotted around the property, kitted out with garden plots, BQ grills and expansive views across the mountains, follow suit. They are small, stylish buildings, their snug proportions put to careful use with the inclusion of a minute kitchen, expansive windows, and sleeping quarters furnished with simple, carefully curated pieces. An on-site cafe serves coffee and goodies baked with a sweet tooth in mind, and a few more establishments a short wander down the road are ideal for dinner. Just six kilometres away, Khao Yai National Park offers up 2,000 kilometres of forest and grassland for hiking, cycling and wildlife enthusiasts; the hotel thoughtfully provides a bicycle to each cottage with these explorations in mind.
