“An antique-filled inn; full of character, on the Duchy of Lancaster Estate in the Forest of Bowland. Fine gardens, fishing available, child friendly and dogs welcome too. Charming.”

Hotel review

Charles Bowman is the third generation of his family to run this charming 23-bedroom inn, located on the Duchy of Lancaster Estate in the Forest of Bowland. The family’s taste for antiques is evident, with an eclectic mix throughout, from the Victorian bathing machines in some of the bathrooms to the pictures and prints which line the bedroom walls. With roots that date back to the 14th century, the inn is full of character; glass bookcases groan with guide books and cookery books for sale, while the reception doubles up as a fantastically well-stocked wine shop. Food is locally sourced with bar meals served in the spacious sitting room and other meals in the dining room. Fishing is available on the nearby River Hodder. A lovely place.
