“The Serras is a fantastic five-star hotel overlooking Barcelona's marina, in the Gothic quarter. Awash with contemporary style and chicness, the hotel's building has the distinction of being where Picasso began his art career. Complete with a superb Catalan restaurant, this is an indulgent stay.”

Hotel review

This chic, contemporary 30-room boutique hotel housed in an attractive building dating from 1846 and boasting a restored modernist facade is populated throughout with designer furnishings. Its two restaurants are overseen by a Michelin star chef serving Catalan dishes with a modern slant, plus there’s a charming rooftop bar with a small dipping pool, which is an ideal spot for cocktails. It has a fab location in the Gothic Quarter, with the buzzing Born neighbourhood, Las Ramblas and the beach close by to explore. A combination of earthy and warm colours, soft fabrics, plush furniture and splashes of colour create a homely but sassy vibe. Though the bright guest rooms are not the biggest, they have an uplifting Mediterranean feel and have classy touches like linen curtains, possibly a wrought iron balcony, and swish predominantly white bathrooms with walk-in showers and sometimes a double sink.

The Serras Review

"Feast on Catalan sharing menus created by Michelin-starred chef Marc Gascons, or head up to the small-but-stylish rooftop pool and bar, for some sunshine and a dip with a glass of cava, a plate of oysters and the best patatas bravas in Spain - all with views over the glittering marina. They get it."

THE HOT LIST 2015

"Designer Eva Martínez went all out for New York loft-style appeal here, with soaring ceilings, huge plate-glass windows and solid wood floors, while also working with traditional elements of Catalan design such as a monochromatic riff on the Modernisme hydraulic tilesthat line so many Barcelona apartments."
