Hotel review

In the centre of a village just off the A1 and surrounded by 20 acres of wooded grounds, Wentbridge House evokes the tastes of generations of Yorkshire landowners. Decorated with hunting scenes and prints of 19th century cavalrymen, there's plenty of dark polished wood throughout the original 18th century manor. Rooms in the newer garden and courtyard wings have enormous, gloriously comfortable beds, velvet armchairs and settees, and unfussily decorated bathrooms. Perks include Moulton Brown toiletries, fluffy robes, Nespresso machines and complimentary daily newspaper. Menus in both the elegant Fleur de Lys fine-dining restaurant and the less formal Brasserie, emphasise Yorkshire lamb, pork, beef and seafood.
