Conceived by New York based architects and designers, Yas Viceroy certainly knows how to impress in looks. Its almost spaceship like exterior, which is lit up by an ever changing range of colours at night, is complemented inside with a sleek modern finish. The colour palette in rooms and suites is definitely masculine in feel – all white, black and grey in differing textures of marble, slate, porcelain and leather. And whilst the rooms may be minimalist in style, there has been no scrimping on the luxury with huge comfy beds and top notch accessories including ESPA smellies, nespresso machines and a balcony with a view (albeit one shaded by the extraordinary matrix of steel and diamond shaped glass panels that clads the building). The hotel is made up of two separate buildings (the main building and the marina wing) connected by a central walkway (which also houses the Rush nightclub) that straddles the Grand Prix circuit. Atop each of these buildings there is a rooftop complex with swimming pool (one for adults only atop the Marina wing, the other for families) and bar/café, so there’s no need to move, apart from re-position your lounger to get the best of the day’s rays (and even then there’ll be someone on hand to help). The pool areas are also perfect for viewing the racing circuit below; it’s a bit of a buzz watching single seater race cars fly around the track – you can (almost) imagine what it would be like to enjoy the Grand Prix from this fabulous viewpoint. Dining at the Yas Viceroy will not disappoint even the pickiest of eaters – there really is something for everyone whether you like an Indian (fine dining style and highly recommended – you have to try the naan bread!), Italian or more traditional Arabic cuisine. Plus there’s a Japanese restaurant and a Chinese noodle place for those looking for more Asian flavours. The roof-top sky lounge is a must if you want a cocktail with a view. Staff are exceptionally friendly and knowledgeable and the service is excellent – from remembering your name and coffee order in the exceptionally busy buffet breakfast restaurant from one day to the next to advising on what to see and how to get there. A truly unique luxury stay with only one downside – the planes are a bit noisy!
