About Main Brook

Main Brook is a small town on Newfoundland’s Great Northern Peninsula. A deep water port, the town is both a centre for commerce and recreation and the best places to stay in Main Brook offer an ideal base to explore this beautiful part of the world.

The town emerged in the 1930’s and grew through forestry. In the 1940’s Bowater turned Main Brook into a ‘company town’. There were apartments and offices for employees, machine and carpentry shops and warehouses. The company left in 1968, and the town languished. However, more recently there's been a revival. Forestry continues, albeit on a smaller scale, and now there's also thriving fishing and tourist industries, and a keen sense of community involvement.

This is a beautiful part of Canada. Main Brook is on the ‘French Shore’ with its neighbouring nature reserve, and there are breathtaking views over the water.

For visitors there is the Viking trail, and the wildlife is simply stunning: moose, caribou and black bear to name but a few. It is a great place for walking, hiking, hunting and fishing......or simply getting away from it all amid glorious scenery. St. Anthony airport is a 30 kilometre drive.
