About Les Arcs

Split into four sections — 1600, 1800, 1950 and 2000 — Les Arcs is a modern, purpose-built resort overlooking the pretty town of Bourg-Saint-Maurice in Savoie. Popular with keen skiers and snowboarders, this relaxed resort offers a range of accommodation options. You’ll find the best places to stay in Les Arcs scattered between its four distinct areas; it’s well worth considering the character and location of each zone as you plan your trip.

Set roughly around the tree-line on a steep section of mountain, Les Arcs 1600 and 1800 — which correspond broadly to altitude — are closer to Bourg-Saint-Maurice. Built first, laid-back 1600 is set at the top of the town’s funicular railway, whilst 1800 is newer and larger. You’ll find more affordable hotels and chalets in 1800. Les Arcs 1950 and 2000, on the other hand, sit on the far side of the mountain, at the base of a great snowy bowl. Futuristic 2000, which is actually closer to 2100 metres above sea level, is made up of big apartment blocks and chalet-style accommodation, well-suited to families or groups. 1950 is the newest area (it opened in 2003), and offers more charming, small-scale accommodation. Base yourself in these two higher-altitude villages for ski-in/ski-out access to the slopes.

The entire region offers a fantastic variety of on and off-piste runs for a whole array of abilities. A cable car links skiers to La Plagne — the other half of the Paradiski ski area — and you’re close enough to Val d’Isère and Tignes to pop across for the day. Don’t miss the magical views from the Aiguille Rouge, kicking back at Bowling La Station with the whole family or joining friends at buzzy bars in the evening. Particularly busy during New Year and February half-term, the best places to stay in Les Arcs are well worth booking in advance!
