About Langeoog

A fascinating part of Lower Saxony, the East Frisian islands are a world unto themselves. Tucked between coastal wetlands and the vast expanse of the North Sea, Langeoog has emerged as a particular favourite, known for its wonderfully pure air and beautiful landscapes. Proudly car-free, the island is ideal for those looking to slow down and immerse themselves in the magic of the great outdoors. This low-key, easygoing feel is reflected in many of the best places to stay in Langeoog, too, which tend to be intimate, characterful and family-run.

Beloved by Germans as a thalassotherapy spa destination, Langeoog has long attracted those dreaming of rest and relaxation. Life here is relaxed, and you’ll find an abundance of walking and cycling trails between undulating dunes or along the famously expansive 14km beach. Little ones will adore the novelty of a horse-drawn carriage ride — still a favourite way to get across the island! Expect to see placid grazing cattle, stretches of sea buckthorn and dog rose bushes, and uninterrupted views towards the wetlands and the water.

Keen bird watchers and adventurers will be fascinated by the Wadden Sea National Park, which boasts the largest unbroken series of sand and mud flats on the planet. Discover the park’s enormous herring gull colony, marvel at this unique ecosystem with an expert guide, or simply cycle along picturesque paths as a family. Boat trips between the East Frisian islands also come highly recommended, as do trips to the Langeoog Maritime Museum.
