Out on the water you’ll see fishermen casting their nets, women washing their clothes and families bathing in the river — a very different scene from the hustle and bustle of the city!

Back in town, you’ll find an array of boutiques selling everything from hand-woven textiles to jewellery and handicrafts. There are also some excellent museums, including one dedicated to Kerala’s famous matrilineal society. The annual Nehru Trophy Boat Race is held in Alappuzha every August — don’t miss it!
