About Kuta
Set on Lombok's beautiful south coast, Kuta is a lively little beach town with a burgeoning array of accommodation options for travellers of all ages. Whether you’re dreaming of surfing the waves on this gorgeous Indonesian island, embarking on jungle adventures or sipping sundowners in a laid-back bar, this is your spot. Highlighting affordable hideaways as well as chic boutique boltholes, our list of the best places to stay in Kuta is guaranteed to fuel your wanderlust.
Whilst Lombok is far quieter than neighbouring Bali, Kuta has been on intrepid surfers’ bucket lists since the 1970s, so the town has a bit of a buzz. Kuta Beach itself is a striking stretch of golden sand, with some great breaks, board hire and surf instructors. The town has grown in recent years, so you’ll now find cafés, bars and eateries aplenty along the beachfront and tucked further inland. Keen surfers can ride the waves at Selong Belanak, Gerupuk and Mawi, amongst other beaches across the island, too. Alternatively, enjoy boat trips and kite-surfing, try snorkelling and diving on day trips to the Gili Islands, or simply kick back in the sunshine.
Active explorers will find ample opportunities for cycling and hiking tours in Lombok's verdant interior, as well as chances to delve into local culture with village and temple tours. Southern Lombok has a thriving yoga scene, and many of the best places to stay in Kuta host their own classes; others can point you towards reputed shalas for post-surf stretches.
