About Torres Vedras

Torres Vedras, steeped in military significance, is famed for its role in the Peninsula War and the remarkable Line of Torres Vedras — a series of fortifications that once included 152 forts and 628 redoubts built to protect Lisbon. Whilst the city itself is striking, many of the best places to stay around Torres Vedras are dotted along the nearby coastline — perfect for surf-focused holidays!

A city of whitewashed buildings crowned with red-tiled roofs, Torres Vedras is well worth exploring on foot — particularly with an expert guide. Visit the Leonel Trindade Municipal Museum, retrace the Line of Torres Vedras, and enjoy tours and tastings at the wineries which surround the city.

Torres Vedras’ beaches have become increasingly popular with surfers in recent years. Santa Cruz and Praia Azul promise consistent waves for both beginners and experienced surfers year-round. The coast also features dramatic cliffs, hidden coves, and expansive sandy beaches. Opportunities to kite surf, bodyboard, swim and sunbathe abound.
