About Artà
One of north-eastern Mallorca's prettiest towns, historic Artà has long been a favourite of visitors from within Spain and further afield. Brimming with heritage sites, striking natural beauty and fabulous cuisine, it’s a wonderful area to explore. Our Gurus have highlighted a fantastic selection of the best places to stay in Artà, many of which are set in — or close to — the ancient centre of the town. You’ll find gorgeous eco escapes in restored rural farmhouses, too, if you know where to look.
The crenellated Santuari de Sant Salvador dominates Artà’s skyline, whilst its narrow streets are lined with medieval towers, cafés, eateries and independent boutiques. Delve into the area’s past at the Regional Museum of Artà, visit the Bronze Age settlement of Ses Païsses or join chattering shoppers in picking ceramics, textiles and woven baskets at the bustling Tuesday market.
Outdoorsy travellers can explore the area on foot or on two wheels, following paths between rounded green hills and pine forests, towards the golden beaches of the coast. The nearby horse riding school organises excursions for both novice and experienced adventurers, whilst a beautiful 18-hole golf course awaits. The best places to stay in Artà fill up particularly fast during the summer months — book your trip well in advance if travelling at peak season!
The Best Places to Stay in Artà
For the Old Town
- Can Moragues is a wonderful old Mallorcan manor house in the heart of Artà's historic old town. Characterful rooms and suites with high beamed ceilings and exposed stone walls share access to a lovely pool and garden. Breakfasts are served on private patios and there are bicycles for exploring. Family friendly & great value.
- Sant Salvador, also in the medieval heart of town, is a charming seven-bedroom hotel in a restored city palace just alongside the church. Rooms are bedecked in opulent fabrics, with lovely antique pieces — including four-poster beds — and colourful decor. Romantic, quirky and vey reasonably priced, this delightful spot prides itself on its artistic, unconventional feel. Intimate, romantic and creative.
- Hotel Forn Nou is another central hotel, this time with more pared-back, whitewashed interiors in seven uniquely appointed rooms. Book the Pool Suite for a private plunge pool on your terrace, or the Ocean View Suite to see the sea between the mountains. Foodies will adore the restaurant's gourmet cuisine, adapted to use the best of the day's catch and the market's freshest produce.
- Jardi d'Arta has eleven rooms and suites in two buildings, one of which dates back to the 19th Century. A gorgeous boutique bolthole, the hotel is unusual in having a labyrinthine rooftop garden, with rose trellises, two pools, a secluded patio and grassy areas shaded by palm trees. Add chic, understated interiors and a gastronomic Mediterranean restaurant headed by Chef Florian Schwarz and you have something truly special.
For a Rural Escape
- Son Cardaix has just nine rooms, most with exposed beams, four-poster beds and prettily tiled bathrooms. A country estate-turned-agrotourism hotel, this relaxed hideaway boasts a stunning outdoor terrace with views of northeastern Mallorca's marvellous mountains. Savour local specialities before scenic rural walks.
- Finca S'Estelrica is a beautiful nine-bedroom boutique hotel with a strong eco focus. The restored farmhouse now includes airy spaces clad in earthy tones with expansive rural views. Guests are invited to feast on garden-grown and local produce at breakfast or dinner, and to enjoy hiking or cycling in the area. Tranquil and soulful.
- Finca Son Gener invites guests to immerse themselves in the natural beauty of north-eastern Mallorca, and to soak up the magic of fresh cuisine, regular yoga classes and a saltwater pool for restorative wellbeing. With 15 rooms set between an 18th-century farmhouse and a newer building, this is also an appealingly intimate escape.

- Expect hot, sunny summers, with temperatures averaging between 22°C - 28°C from June to August. Winters are mild, but the autumn months tend to be very rainy.
