10 of the Best Hotels near Notre Dame, Paris

Notre Dame

Notre Dame de Paris is one of the most iconic sites, and sights, in a city known for its iconic landmarks. What’s more, the area around Notre Dame is a great choice as a Paris base. It’s elegant; St Germain des Prés is one of the most fashionable parts of town, with its chi-chi cafes and boutiques and the Latin Quarter is known for its lively nightlife and colourful bars. And the Left Bank generally has the Musée d’Orsay, the Musée Rodin, Les Invalides and the Eiffel Tower, in addition to Notre Dame. You’re also just across the river from the Louvre. So whatever reason you have for coming to Paris it might be useful to peruse our recommendations for 10 of the best hotels near Notre Dame cathedral. We think the list is a good reflection of some of the best Paris has to offer.

Best Boutique Hotels near Notre Dame

Relais St Germain

  • In the heart of fashionable St Germain des Prés, the Relais St Germain is a charming, Art Deco era hotel with some really fantastic original features which pre-date the Art Deco era, but fit in beautifully and add an air of eccentricity. It’s not just parquet and exposed beams, there are interior gates and extra wooden posts in the centre of some rooms, and some inventively shaped rooms too. It all feels very intimate and original, but with all the mod. cons.. There are 22 rooms atop a superb gourmet restaurant.
  • Named after the cathedral, Christian Lacroix’s Notre Dame hotel is a beautifully converted, 400 year old riverside townhouse with truly incredible views of you know what. There are 26 rooms, and their individual designs are fun, colourful and romantic, mirroring Lacroix’s approach to fashion and design generally. Your room might have cowhide or tapestry wallpaper, or carpet designed to look like Medieval paving. There’s no restaurant, but they do offer breakfast, and you’re fantastically central. It’s good value as well.

Best City Break Hotels

Villa dEstrees

  • The Villa d'Estrees is an elegant, ten room hotel in the heart of the Latin Quarter. The decor is traditional, but with a French Empire twist: think striped wallpaper and candle-lamps. The hotel doesn’t have a restaurant, but the same family who own and run the hotel have a charming little bistro across the cobbled street, which is perfect for French classics. All of the rooms are quite large for Pairs, and some would suit a family.
  • The Hôtel Atmosphères is another good Latin Quarter option, close to the bars, cafes and boutiques of Saint Germain des Près and to the Musée d'Orsay and Notre Dame. Its 56 rooms are individually styled, but have a contemporary feel, with impressive photos of Paris, bold colours, interesting design pieces and exposed stone walls. There’s no restaurant (breakfast is available), but there is a spa.

Hotel Duo

  • Contemporary looking, with good facilities, the Hotel Duo is in an excellent spot for a city break: on the right bank of the Seine, close to the lively Marais, and a few minutes walk from Notre Dame. There are 58 rooms and suites, some perfect for families, some with their own balconies or terrace and some with kitchenettes. All are simply decorated in a contemporary style. There’s no restaurant, but they do offer breakfast, and there’s a large fitness centre.

For a romantic stay

LHotel

  • L'Hôtel isn’t simply one of the most romantic hotels near Notre Dame, it’s one of the most romantic hotels in Paris. Once Oscar Wilde’s Left Bank residence, this iconic hotel has more recently been reimagined by Jacques Garcia, who has given it a flamboyant elegance that Wilde would probably have approved of. Choose between jewel-box like rooms and themed suites (if you can bear the tristesse you can sleep in the room in which Oscar Wilde expired beyond his means). There's also a divine candlelit plunge pool, perfect for romantic assignations.
  • While its interiors have also been designed by Jacques Garcia, the Hotel Bourg Tibourg has an entirely different look and feel: this is a Parisian townhouse turned sultry Moorish palace. Its 30 smallish, dimly lit rooms are heavily adorned with rich fabrics, many tassels, Moroccan ornaments, mosaic-tiled baths and large scented candles. There’s some lovely antique and lacquered furniture dotted around, in the rooms and in the lounge. There’s no restaurant but they offer breakfast and a limited room service menu.

Relais Christine

  • Close to the Seine, tucked away on a quiet lane in St Germain des Prés, is the Relais Christine, a luxurious mansion converted into a 48 room hotel. You enter through a courtyard, which gives a feeling of privacy and peace that carries through into the hotel. The rooms have chandeliers, marble baths and plush drapes and linens, but they all have their own characters, and some have a balcony or terrace. There are a couple of very spacious family suites as well. There’s no restaurant, but you can order room service from the restaurant next door. And there’s a sumptuous lounge with an honesty bar and arty coffee table books, and underground, in the 13th century vaults, is a Finnish sauna, a hot tub, and a Spa Guerlain.

The Best Traditional Hotels near Notre Dame

Le Relais de Louvre

  • Le Relais du Louvre in much closer to the Église Saint-Germain l'Auxerrois, than to the Louvre, it’s right next door, with some views of the church’s pinnacles close-up enough to touch them. Inside the 22 rooms are charmingly traditional, with classic French furnishing and patterned wallpapers and linens. The rooms are all shapes and sizes, because this is an old house by the river, and some have beams and floor-length windows. Cosy and pretty, and very central.

For great value

Caron de Beaumarchais

  • The Caron de Beaumarchais is a 19 room hideaway in the Marais district, packed with wonderful historic details, like exposed beams, period artwork and wallpapers, floral motifs and intricate objets d’art. The location is brilliant for sightseeing, and the smaller rooms are very affordable, without compromising on style. For something a bit more expensive, but well worth it, book one of the 6th floor rooms with a view over the rooftops of Paris.
