Lama di Luna Biomasseria

Puglia, sitting tucked away in the south, is Italy’s hottest region. It’s more like Greece in temperature. So, for many people, the one essential for a holiday in Puglia is a hotel with a pool. Whether you want a relaxing holiday or are eager to explore the region’s historic charms or prefer to cycle through its varied landscapes, or splash about at the seaside, to have a pool close to your bedroom is essential. And hotels in Puglia don’t disappoint. Whether in the country, by the coast, in the town, or whether luxurious or a simple B&B, we’ve rounded up the best hotels in Puglia with a pool.

Rural hotels with pools

  • With a beautiful infinity pool set amidst blinding-white buildings, and with views over countryside, Masseria Bagnara encourages indolence. Rooms are sharply modern with crisp furnishings, neutral tones and dark-wood floors – some with private terraces and plunge-pools. There's a spa, too.
  • By contrast, Lama di una Biomasseria is a farmhouse converted on feng shui principles. Rooms, with exposed-stone walls, tiled floors, vaulted ceilings and brass bedsteads, are darkly romantic; many have fireplaces. There’s a stunning infinity pool with far-reaching views and the restaurant focuses on local produce.
  • In a converted 17th-century farmhouse, Masseria Salinola offers an authentic Puglian boutique retreat. Surrounded by countryside, and with flower-dotted courtyards, it’s immensely relaxing. Airy bedrooms are full of rustic charm, there’s a romantic dining-room focussing on local produce – including their own olive oil.

Trulli hotels with pools

Abate Masseria and Resort

  • The freeform pool at Masseria Cervarolo is a big draw, as well as the charming rooms in trulli houses that sit next to the former farmhouse. Spacious and rustic, with colourful rugs, the rooms feel very private. Several are family suites, and there’s a choice of indoor and outdoor dining.
  • Another trulli conversion, Abate Masseria and Resort, is more rural hideaway than resort, with just eight romantic rooms in delightful trulli houses with thick stone walls, domed ceilings and terracotta floors. A large pool sits in the garden while the restaurant serves up excellent Puglian cooking.
  • Equally, the Leonardo Trulli Resort – with just four rooms – is definitely a rural retreat. Rooms are elegantly rustic with cool colours; often beds are tucked romantically in alcoves. The pool, with shady loungers, overlooks lovely countryside.

Good value hotels with pools

Relais Villa San Martino

  • The colourful farmhouse of Borgo San Marco sits on an olive-growing estate and offers charming rustic rooms that highlight natural materials; wood, stone and earthy tones. The walled gardens enclose a pool, citrus grove and shady terraces, plus there’s a small spa.
  • Closer to the sea, Masseria Panereo is a stylish farmhouse conversion with light, traditionally furnished rooms scattered around the grounds – some with patios – a pool with enviable views over olive groves and a handsome restaurant.
  • The elegant Relais Villa San Martino sits in beautiful grounds with a charming pool. Rooms are extremely comfortable, and traditional country-house in style, while public areas are calm and elegant. Flower-filled terraces, a spa and a romantic dining room add up to a truly relaxing stay.

Luxury hotels with pools

Masseria Torre Maizza

  • For top-class luxury, it’s hard to beat Masseria San Domenico, one of Puglia’s finest hotels on the coast at Savelletri. The 14th-century buildings offer classic country-house rooms and suites while there’s a beautiful spa, golf course, private beach as well as salt-water pool in natural surrounds.
  • Equally luxurious, but with a more chic style, Masseria Le Mandorle is a converted farmhouse with 12 slick and modern bedrooms. There’s plenty on offer with a pool, tennis court, hot tub, bicycles to hire, wine-tasting and cookery classes, while foodies will relish its well-regarded restaurant.
  • For a luxurious family hotel, take a look at Borgo Egnazia, a fun, village-style resort, close to the beaches at Savelletri. No-one will be bored here with a choice of several pools, tennis courts, a spa and beach club. A choice of restaurants, too, while rooms are suitably spoiling with marble bathrooms.
  • If you prefer somewhere with a younger vibe, Masseria Torre Maizza might fit the bill. On the coast near Savelletri, and with its own beach club, it offers heaps of activities including sailing, windsurfing, cookery classes and a spa – as well as a pool. Rooms are beautifully done (what do you expect from one of Rocco Forte's properties?) but for something really special book a deluxe suite with private pool.

Hotels by the sea with pools

  • With indoor and outdoor pools, plus a private beach, you’re spoiled for choice at Il Melograno, a 16th-century farmhouse with Moorish outbuildings. Rooms are traditionally furnished, with rugs on tiled floors and antiques. Relax in the spa or in the flower-filled courtyards.
  • For a chic hideaway, close to Otranto and beaches, consider Masseria Mongio, where rural buildings have been cleverly converted to create contemporary rooms that retain original features of beams, exposed-stone walls and flagged floors. There’s a garden with large pool, bikes to borrow and a small spa.
  • Also close to Otranto’s beaches, Tenuta Centoporte Resort has a sweeping outdoor pool surrounded by pristine white loungers and a discreet bar. Rooms are softly white-on-white, some with terraces, and there’s a choice of indoor and outdoor dining.
  • With views of the sea near Savelletri, Casale del Murgese is a farmhouse conversion with airy rooms – some with terraces – in a light, traditional style. There’s a dreamy infinity pool, with poolside bar, large garden and handsome dining room serving traditional Apulian cuisine.
