14 Best Spa Hotels in Andalucía

Castillo de Monda

Andalucía is a naturally spectacular region at the very edge of Spain, overlooking the ocean towards Morocco, and is known for its cultural richness. And this historic cultural wealth includes a rich history in baths and natural hot springs. Several of the hotels our Gurus have recommended on this list of the best spa hotels in Andalucía have underground Roman Baths fed by hot springs, and a number more have Turkish hammams as well, and all in addition to contemporary spa menus that are as varied and innovative as they are impressive. So Andalucía is a unique, historic and beautiful spa break destination.

For the Scrapbook

Hospes Palacio del Bailio

  • Within the elegant Hospes Palacio del Bailio complex are stunning underground Roman Baths converted into a stand-out spa, complete with outdoor and indoor pools and baths, steam rooms and all sorts of treatments. As well as the baths, there are faded frescoes, vaulted ceilings and incredible Moorish marble. There are 53 rooms and suites, and a list of facilities that also includes a show-stopping courtyard restaurant serving gourmet cuisine, all within a pleasant stroll of many of Cordoba’s main sights.

For the Views

Hotel V

  • Castillo de Monda has been caringly converted from an Andalucían castle in a spectacular spot, overlooking the white town of Monda, and beyond that green hills. Its 27 rooms and suites are spacious, and have all the mod cons, plus gorgeous views. The holistic spa treatments are perfectly set against this backdrop, allowing you the peace and space to really unwind. There’s a range of places to eat and drink onsite, including the tropical roof garden and a more formal restaurant. There’s also a pool with a view.
  • Hotel V is a beautifully decorated hotel in Vejer de la Frontera, an atmospheric, historic, white hilltop town just south of Cádiz and overlooking the Straights of Gibraltar. The hotel has a roof terrace with incredible views of the plains, and all the way to Morocco on a clear day, and it has a hot tub. The 12 rooms and suites feature dark-wood Goan antiques and the villa’s original features, but set against a bright contemporary backdrop, and they offer in-rom spa treatments. Vivir by V offers specially curated wellness retreats allowing you not only to enjoy top notch pampering and health advice, but also be personally guided through the history of this fascinating place.

For Excellent Facilities

Finca Cortesin

  • The Finca Cortesin is a stunning golf resort on a grand scale. Everything here feels spacious and grand, from the vast pool to the high ceilings and huge art. In addition to the impressive, 18 hole, golf course there are four pools, a choice of restaurants — one with a Michelin star — and a huge spa complete with thermal baths, a 25m heated, saltwater indoor pool and a menu to make spa aficionados weak at the knees.

For Luxury

Gran Hotel Miramar

  • Málaga’s Gran Hotel Miramar is palatial and historic, with only palm tress separating the hotel from the sand of Malagueta Beach. The combination of Moorish and Andalucían decor features grand, prominent archways, intricate tile designs and courtyards that look like magnificent concourses. There are 190 rooms and suites, and the facilities are accordingly wide-ranging including a vast pool, several elegant restaurants and a Sisley spa with an impressive list of ways to make you feel better all over, inside and out.
  • The Villa Padierna Palace is as luxurious as it sounds, a suitably palatial, 130 room grand villa with three golf courses, a superb restaurant, and a super luxurious spa, which has Roman baths, a hammam and pool, as well as more standard features, all set in tranquil, landscaped gardens.

For Families

La Bobadilla

  • La Bobadilla is a large hotel arranged like a villa on a private, thousand acre country estate. Surrounded by olive groves, oak trees and views of rolling, green hills, these 70 rooms, suites and private apartments and villas are palatially dressed, with Moorish details but all the contemporary mod cons. There’s an impressive range of places to eat and drink, and the spa is superb, featuring couples' treatments, a hydro pool, Finnish sauna, hammam and much more.
  • Offering a luxurious stay, right beside the ocean, the Hotel Puente Romano is some of our top picks for family spa hotels because of its private beach and kids club — which will help facilitate you actually using the spa! The spa itself is run by Six Senses, and it offers a huge range of treatments and facilities. There’s also a choice of places to eat and drink, ten tennis courts, a hotel yacht, a huge tropical garden, and a collection of around 260 sunny rooms and suites decorated in whites and creams.

For the Ocean

Marbella Club

  • The Marbella Club is a spa and beach resort right up against the golden sands of Playa de Nagueles and the Mediterranean beyond. Its collection of 80-odd rooms, suites and villas are surrounded by lush grounds, creating a naturally beautiful setting for the elegant, luxurious buildings. This is the place to come for holistic healing: there’s a naturopath and nutritionists, as well as fitness experts and instructors, and the spa is a huge part of that. There’s also an impressive list of facilities, and, of course, the beach. In summer they have a great kids club.

For a Rural Retreat

Fountainhead

  • With just four idyllic suites, and an incredible location in what feels like the middle of nowhere, Fountainhead is the model of secluded romance. Staying here is all about rejuvenation; their methods including saunas, a gorgeous yoga gym with a view, and a candlelit outdoor tub. They offer private dining in all sorts of charming nooks. And a babysitting service!
  • The Finca La Donaira is a luxurious eco-retreat and organic farm, with nine private guest suites decorated simply with natural materials and traditional techniques — but also with high end design features and original art. The hotel has a series of pools, some fed by a natural spring, and they offer yoga and meditation sessions if you need to unwind.

For a City Break

Hospes Palacio de los Patos

  • Granada’s Hospes Palacio de los Patos is an impressively large Spanish-style mansion turned 43 room hotel. Inside, the rooms have been updated with clean, straight lines, and features glass room dividers and smooth, monochrome tiles and marble. The location and restaurant are perfect for exploring, and tasting Granada and this region; the spa is state-of-the-art, and includes a sauna and Turkish hammam.
  • Las Casas de la Juderia is a romantic, very Andalucían feeling, hotel, converted from 27 interconnected historic townhouses in the old Jewish quarter of Seville. So it feels like something of a rabbit warren, and features a variety of original features, from pillared courtyards to gorgeous parquet and plasterwork, Moorish tiles and exposed beams. The decor includes a vast collection of antiques too. The impressive spa specialises in both aesthetic and heath treatments, and is based on ancient Roman baths.

For Great Value

Aire Hotel

  • The Aire Hotel is an incredibly elegant hotel in the heart of historic Almeria, with views over the old town, fortress and the Alcazaba. Underneath the 25 rooms and suites lie an arrangement of ancient Arabian baths, where you can take a relaxing candlelit thermal bath circuit. It’s a really unique spa experience and extremely relaxing. At the very top of the hotel is the roof terrace with a beautiful pool-with-a-view.
