Hotel review

Formerly two separate 19th century palaces, this luxurious hotel delights in bringing the traditional face to face with the modern in a symphony of original features, stunning heritage rooms that are kept exactly as they were nearly 200 years ago, and modern art. There’s even an onsite chic new café complete with tattooed baristas and vegan cakes. The layout of the hotel is an interesting one, as the two palaces don’t meet. You can take the lift as far as the 7th floor, but if you’re staying on the 8th floor you have to switch lifts, creating a feeling of intrigue as you hop from one building to another. In the basement the spa is usually quiet and treatments are luxurious, while in the Austrian market inspired restaurant a three or five course set menu, or a la carte, is served at bench style tables or cosy booths at the bar.
