“It's all about the views at this chic ryokan on a hillside near Nara Park. Elegant, spacious rooms boast floor-to-ceiling windows framing the lush landscape beyond. There are 4 open-air baths, a restaurant serving Japanese cuisine with a French twist, plus a rooftop terrace. A picture perfect stay.”

Ando Hotel Nara Wakakusayama

Situated on the gentle lower slopes of Mount Wakakusa, overlooking the entirety of Japan’s ancient capital city, the Ando Hotel Nara Wakakusayama is Japanese hospitality at its finest; here the timeless ryokan concept is adapted to the boutique-hotel era, a mid-century escape thoroughly renovated and updated with Western-plan rooms, retaining the concept’s onsen baths and extravagantly crafted cuisine. Of particular note are the four open-air baths, with far-ranging views over Nara; the restaurant, Terrace Wakakusayama, takes in a dramatic panorama as well, and combines traditional Japanese flavors and preparations with a cosmopolitan French influence.
