Through a large heavy door, across a cobbled courtyard, up a grand staircase and you’ll find yourself in this boutique hotel situated in an hôtel particulier built in 1777. Today, thanks to the owner’s interior designer wife and with help from an architect, Baudon de Mauny balances old and new in an imaginative and clever way. Original features such as stone floors – complete with fossilised shells – and decorative plasterwork remain, with the addition of bold Cole & Son prints, designer furniture and modern lighting. With the owner viewing each space as a project in itself, rooms are all individual in design and avoid interfering with the building’s history. High ceilings give a spacious airy feel, as seen in the pretty 18th century sitting room with its elegant furniture, art books and honesty bar.
