“An opulent country hall turned luxury wedding venue/B&B just outside Alnwick. Individually designed suites both in the main house and additional outbuildings ooze contemporary style, yet merge beautifully with the original period details. A stunning property either for a romantic getaway or party.”

Hotel review

Brace yourself for something completely different! This18th-century hall, surrounded by sheep-grazed farmland and a private estate of 150 acres has been transformed into a striking venue by its 32 year old owner Richard who grew up in the adjacent farm. He had had his eye on the hall for many years before it finally became his and he set about restoring and preserving the original features including the original wooden flooring, fireplaces, windows and doors. Many of the pieces of antique furniture were included in the sale preserving the charm of this period property.

Don't be fooled by the traditional exterior though! The interior design team have thrown in colour, humour and modern design throughout the rooms and the house. Bright pink loos, gold paint dripping down the walls, neon signs, bespoke murals by world-famous artist Vanessa Foley and bold, funky wallpaper are just some of the quirks you'll discover during your stay. Bold fabrics and wallpapers have been sourced from Pierre Frey, Matthew Williamson, Manuel Canovas, Harlequin Sumi, and Diane Von Furstenberg with soft furnishings by 'one to watch' designer Gung-Ho, House of Hackney and Mulberry.

Six of the suites are in the main house, Stable Cottage has two bedrooms, as does Farm Cottage and The Lookout is a very private one-bedroom cottage.

Charlton Hall is less than an hour north of Durham and an hour from Edinburgh and the affordable rates make this a fabulous choice for a pit stop on your way north or south or for a two night break. There are some remarkable restaurants nearby (top of the list by a mile is the exceptional Beadnell Towers) including Adam and Eve in Alnwick and The Potted Lobster in Bamburgh. Dinner isn't served at Charlton Hall but breakfast is exceptional and is prepared by the Head Chef; the eggs benedict is perfection. Service comes with a friendly smile and Derek will mix you up a cocktail in the bar which is open from 5.30 every day. We love that check in is done online so your key will be waiting for you on your arrival and you can go straight to your room.

If you're looking for a wedding or event venue then Charlton Hall is a great choice; it's events room with twinkling ceiling and glass walls has it's own bar and funky, instagram worthy loos.

Fun and fabulous and great for all ages, Charlton Hall is a great place to stay to visit the castles, towns and beaches of Northumbria without breaking the bank or compromising on style.
