The Cortiina is small, intimate and staffed largely by locals who know Munich’s best bars, spas, restaurants, cycling routes, summer picnic spots and winter Christmas markets. The rooms are stylish yet subtle, with artistic wallpaper, colourful kilim rugs, parquet pine floors and locally designed furniture. Bathrooms are tucked neatly behind wooden-framed, translucent screens reminiscent of Japanese shōji. Some rooms have a kitchenette while others have outrageously comfortable sofas into which guests sink after a day seeing the sights. The Cortiina’s best rooms are probably those in the loft, with terrific views over the rooftops.
The ground-floor restaurant and integrated wine bar — Grapes — has become a hip hang-out for well-heeled Munich sophisticates. Among the standout evening meals in the restaurant are the goat cheese ravioli, Arctic char with pumpkin and the signature steak vom Rinderfilet (filet of beef). In summer, guests sip Aperol Spritzes here and out on the sun terrace. In winter, the restaurant fire is lit, afternoon tea is served on Dibbern china and everything becomes very Bavaria-cosy.
