“A city-centre hotel with luxury and class, the Dakota Deluxe lives up to its glamorous name with smooth grey-on-grey colours, a clubby style and lounge-bars that work well whether for intimacy or business meetings. Rooms feature sink-into beds, black and white photos and indulgent modern bathrooms.”

Hotel review

Although in the heart of a busy and modern city, this high-rise hotel aims to capture the smooth elegance of the 1930s transatlantic aircraft after which it’s named. The outside is all glossy black-and-white and large tinted windows while inside it's all smooth grey-on-grey, bowls of orchids and mirrored wall-panels. With its low lighting levels, photographs of Hollywood legends and mix of velvet sofas and tan-leather chairs, it feels like a private members’ club. Bedrooms are similarly smooth in shades of grey and black, with clean-lined furniture, slatted blinds and big mirrors. For some, they may be too dark and masculine, though others may see this as romantic. Certainly, they’re cocooning and comfortable. The basement, clubby restaurant is a slightly odd place for breakfast (most people prefer daylight), but it offers quality cooking with a brasserie-style menu for the main meals. At weekends, there’s a rather chic cocktail bar with private terrace in addition to the main lounge-bar. And at five minutes’ walk from the station, the hotel is well-placed whether here for business or leisure.
