Hotel Review

It’s madness to pay top dollar for a hotel with a fancy restaurant when you’re weekending in Spain’s foodie capital. With a clutch of progressive pintxo bars and peerless access to Playa Zurriola, Gros is the city’s coolest neighbourhood – and this is one of its most welcoming hotels. Guests are greeted with a glass of cava in the stylish lobby – its floor-to-ceiling windows made for people-watching – while rooms come with free minibars and sleek bathrooms are stocked with toiletries made from local olive oil. Bedroom décor combines pale yellows with cool white linens, while clever duplex suites offer split-level accommodation for families. The basement houses a tiny gym and a sizeable breakfast room, serving Iberian classics such as tortilla omelette and pan con tomate.
