Hotel Orphee is a busy spot – the fun brasserie restaurant on the ground floor is a draw for locals and hotel residents alike and spills into a covered courtyard at the back. This place has an Expressionistic edgy feel to it. When the lift doors open don’t be surprised to be faced with a life-sized photographic nude, or an Oskar Kokoschka style colour-splodged canvas. The rooms are highly individual and eclectic, with polished wooden floors and beams which offset many a quirky detail – satirical poster prints, old fashioned armoires, big mirrors, enamel lamps. The great thing is they are super-comfy too with big beds, lovely sheets, spacious (slightly old fashioned) bathrooms and plenty of room for your stuff. Highly recommended for a fun and romantic minibreak. Step directly out of the hectic foyer and explore the attractive town and river. Less suitable for small children and the older generation as access and parking are not for the faint hearted.
