Hotel Review
The brainchild of space transformers Suzanne Oxenaar and Otto Nan of Seven New Things, each sartorially-inspired room is designed by a student from AMFI. In “Epaulettes,” giant braided blue trimmings hang from the ceiling. The “Eighties Room” is festooned with an oversized black and white patterned sweater offset by a rainbow coloured boob tube. The top floor “Mattress Room” dissects the bed theme using foam, iron bedsprings and textured padding. “Juanita” is inspired by travels across the globe displaying an interior wrapped in ruffled material based on a Mexican gypsy skirt with Inca-style patterned wickerwork stools. In “Crinoline” guests sleep inside a hooped skirt structure covered in vintage lace pieces. To some this might be fun, to the more serious it’s possibly a little gimmicky so they may be better suited to the more sober designs of the cream eco-cotton “Pleats Room,” pale neutral panelled “Infusion” or white cheesecloth "Hide & Seek” suites. Continental breakfast is served in the café next door. A trendy spot for the young and fashionable!

Why do people love staying in your hotel? Our guests can be roughly divided in two groups: one comes to our hotel mainly for its ideal location in the city centre and at just a few minute walk from Central Station, the other comes for the design and uniqueness of the place. Of course, for most people it’s a bit of both: staying in the middle of the city but still in a unique, exciting, interesting, comfortable and homely place. They come to have a non-standard hotel experience without loss of comfort. Also, our staff are usually mentioned in reviews as very friendly and helpful. What is there to do in the area? The options in the middle of Amsterdam Centre are numerous. To give a few examples: - at the end of Hotel The Exchange’s street is the famous Dam Square with the Royal Palace; - the architectural landmark ‘Beurs van Berlage’ (the old stock exchange building) is right in front of Hotel The Exchange; - The red light district is at just a few minutes walk away; - you can easily visit all well-known museums, like Van Gogh Museum, Rijksmuseum, Stedelijk Museum and the Anne Frank House; - You’re in the middle of Amsterdam’s main shopping streets and the Nine Streets are in walking distance; - On the short walk from Central Station to Hotel The Exchange, you’ll pass many companies offering city tours by canal boat. - Even Amsterdam Noord (North), a hip and upcoming part of Amsterdam, is very easily reached by taking the free ferries departing from Central Station. What kind of breakfast do you offer? Our own ‘Café Stock’ (entrance on street level) offers high-quality coffee and all-day breakfast for a reasonable price, from as early as 7 AM. Many options to choose from! We have a small, sunny terrace overlooking the Damrak street and the Beurs van Berlage. Do you offer other meals? And can you recommend good places to eat out locally? Café Stock is open until 5 PM and has many tasty lunch options as well. For eating out there are many options just around the corner, but we would recommend the somewhat smaller (and less touristy) places a little bit further, on the Nine Streets for example. Which are your most popular room types, and why? Our most popular room by far is the 5-star room 703 – New Rembrandt; a very spacious and bright room with a special folded curtain around the bed, designed by Roos Soetekouw (who has grown to become a successful textile designer). Our 5-star and 4-star rooms are popular because of their spaciousness, beautiful views of the city and even balconies. What facilities do you have for children and can you fit extra beds in your rooms ? We can fit extra beds in most of our 3-, 4- and 5-star rooms, including children’s beds. We have no specific facilities for children. What message would you like to give Hotel Guru readers? Hotel The Exchange has it all: an ideal location in the city centre, unique rooms with an interesting story, a cosy atmosphere and friendly staff. Perfect for travelers looking for a truly unique and comfortable experience during their stay in Amsterdam.
