“Tucked between Comporta and Melides, this hotel with villas blends seamlessly into the sandy Portuguese forests. The decor is a thoughtful nod to local craftsmanship, featuring handmade ceramics and woven rugs. With a chic pool, two standout restaurants, and a serene spa, it's an inviting retreat. ”

Hotel review

Lavender and woodsmoke drift on the breeze as you wander between 40 whitewashed cottages at this sustainably-minded retreat. The 12-hectare property celebrates the art of doing little - Comporta's true luxury. Neutrally decorated rooms offer beautiful light, private terraces overlooking the gardens, kitchenettes, fireplaces, and access to villa pools - waking up here is a rustic living dream realised.

At Maroto restaurant, Alentejo traditions get a cheeky twist: raw starters and perfectly grilled octopus, monkfish, and pistachio-orange tuna. Don't miss the acorn-fed black pork paired with regional wines like Xisto Limitado Rabigato. Lavender infuses everything from French toast cream to inspired desserts.

Aura Spa's rituals draw on the spoils of the land - think invigorating body exfoliation with the purest sea salt from Alcácer do Sal, and organic olive oil from Alentejo. Afterwards, alternate between the heated indoor pool and steam room.

You can borrow electric bikes and cycle to nearby Muda for a beer and a bifana, but there’s little within walking distance - precisely the point. Instead, return to the pink-bottomed pool with its killer summer playlist, or gather around firepits for sunset cocktails, oysters and wine as darkness falls over the Alentejo plains.
