Hotel Review
The passion project of a charismatic, well-travelled British expat couple, who after foregoing their previous corporate careers spent years painstakingly restoring the building that was formerly a family home of a high society Lisbon family (to learn more, ask to see a copy of the old diaries of the grandmother, which details some of the building's history). Today they are much in evidence around the garden and chatting to guests, referring to the hotel as their 'oasis' - and entering the property through heavy doors to discover a walled off garden, bougainvillea climbing high and a Bali-esque pool, it's difficult to disagree (especially after a welcoming glass of rosé). Highlights of spectacular rooms include orginial hand-painted tiles, carved Arabesque ceilings and fabulous Drummond standing bathtubs. Guests, and staff, all seem incredibly happy, which makes for a relaxing and memorable stay.
