Hotel Review

This intimate and historic 16th century palace in the heart of Palermo has been beautifully conserved by its aristocratic owners, the Barons of Valentino, and reinvented as a boutique B&B. Rooms are elegantly furnished with their original antiques, frescoes and paintings adorn the walls, and tall, vaulted ceilings lend grandeur. Some of the rooms have been chopped up a bit to make more space, but a number have small sitting rooms; damask walls and four poster beds with drapes can be found in others. Shutters and double glazing keep out the bright Sicilian light and the noise of the street, though today the traffic is restricted, so you are guaranteed a good night's sleep.

There is a small breakfast room, where you are encouraged to share a communal table, offering a generous spread of Sicilian specialties. The owners are often around, greeting guests like family friends. Downstairs there is a magnificent suite of reception rooms, with beautifully painted wooden coffered ceilings and a priceless collection of Russian objets, Chinese porcelain, and oriental prints. The rooms can be booked for private dinners and are often used for special events, including cultural events, symposiums and classical concerts.

Outside, its a short walk to many of the delights of this city. At least a dozen stunning churches can be found within a five minute radius, and there are plenty of wonderful restaurants nearby to book for dinner.
