Map & Location

See what they say

Why do people love staying in your hotel? Because it provides tranquillity and a contrast to the generally very busy, and noisy towns most tours in India include. The site is very beautiful with restful views and very comfortable beds. A high percentage of visitors also remark on our service and friendly staff (all from the surrounding villages). We get a lot of appreciative remarks about the food also which is very popular. What kind of breakfast do you offer? Continental generally – home made yoghurt, home made muesli, home jams, toast, eggs to order, juice etc. A different extra each day ranging from home baked croissants, madelines or doughnuts to poha (a local dish of savory flattened rice) or paranthas. Do you offer other meals? And can you recommend good places to eat out locally? There is nowhere local to eat out (within approx. 23kms) which is why the accommodation is all on a full board basis. Food is a mix of continental and Indian. The evening meal is Indian and mostly comprises dishes from the Malwa region as they are Raghu’s home recipes. Deserts are a mix of Indian and Western, ranging from profiteroles, chocolate roulade and lemon pudding to carrot halwa and ghee ke roti. For lunch we alternate south Indian dosa meals or puri aloo with quiche or pasta dishes accompanied by fresh mixed salad from our organic garden (these leaves are becoming a bit of signature dish of the Sarai!). Which are your most popular room types, and why? Our 8 cottages are of similar design – 4 twin and 4 double – the latter have an extra mezzanine level with a bed designed for children. Two of these are joined by an outside machan space. These are particularly popular if two families are travelling together. What facilities do you have for children and can you fit extra beds in your rooms ? We have space for one extra bed for children, so in the mezzanine rooms this means space for two children. In addition we have a three-sided sofa that pushes up against the main bed to be a cot for children under three. There are no special facilities but most kids love just being in the open space and enjoying the wildlife from the ant upwards. What message would you like to give Hotel Guru readers? Always add an extra night to your first thought. Many of our visitors regret not staying longer! Whether they come for one night or three!

Eye on the tigers in India

The lodge opened last year and is the creation of wildlife photographer Joanna Van Gruisen, originally from Northumberland, and Raghudandan Singh Chundawat, one of India's best-known wildlife biologists.
