Owned and run by the Makepeace family for the last 30 odd years, Soar Mill Cove is a great example of a super friendly seaside hotel which caters to all ages. The staff are a testament to the owners' ethos - charming, smiley, with a nothing-is-too-much-hassle attitude. It is a low slung building that is the very essence of sixties or seventies chic (or kitsch depending on your point of view!). Rooms are large and either have sea or garden views. Food is another big reason to come here. Chef Ian MacDonald creates a daily changing Prix Fixé menu for dinner, which features many of the local seafood delights, with plenty of picked Salcombe Crab and hand dived local scallops, plus their signature seafood chowder. It's the perfect spot for a family break with swimming pool to keep the kids occupied on rainy days, plus outside play area and tennis court. A spa and sauna should keep parents happy too. It you're into walking, you can't beat the location. The coastal path is one hundred yards from the front door and you can walk for miles, plus the hotel is very doggy friendly. For a great atmosphere, just outside busy Salcombe, Soar Mill Cove is a winner. Plus if you want a little more independence (or simply to have the best of all worlds), rent one of their stunning self catering units (with private hot tubs) which has full use of the hotel's facilities.
