The North Sea coast is increasingly becoming synonymous with wellness and relaxation, with a plethora of luxury spa hotels stretching along the seafront. What makes Strandhotellet Blokhus stand out - and likely helped win its four stars - is how understated it is for such a high-quality hotel. Opening just two years ago, all aspects of the building have been thoughtfully designed, nodding to the traditions of the Baltic town it sits in while incorporating all the modern touches today's holidaymaker expects. The rooms have simple and uncluttered spacing, letting the light glancing off the ocean do most of the work. The hotel is a particular favourite with pet owners; with great dunes and the beach close by, there are lots of pretty walks that dog-lovers will enjoy. Part of the same family as Restaurant Futten and Café Laden, and with its own gourmet restaurant on-site, there is no shortage of places to eat during your stay.
