Guests enter The Bell Hotel through the original wooden revolving doors which lead into a welcoming sitting room and reception area. Golfing prints, photos of the area and local memorabilia decorate the walls. Situated in the centre of Sandwich, one of the ancient Cinque Ports, the hotel overlooks the river and the town’s historic toll bridge. Guests will enjoy wandering the medieval streets and alleyways of this picturesque town, as well as visiting nearby castles. The bedrooms are comfortable and well-appointed in fresh, neutral colours. Many rooms have river views and some have balconies, while others may opt for family rooms or accessible options. The very good brasserie restaurant is light and airy, with a conservatory dining room and large outdoor terrace. The menu features local produce, in addition to Kentish ales and wines – it is, after all, run by Shepherd Neame, Britain’s oldest brewery. Staff are friendly and only too happy to help. The hotel is close to a number of world-famous golf courses, and within walking – or cycling – distance of the sea at Sandwich Bay.
