The owners of The Lisboans want you to experience Lisbon as a local, just for a few days. Conjured from a restored 19th century factory set above Roman pombaline ruins, they’ve sourced artisan furniture, handmade Azulejo tiles, and local antiques to add whimsy to sparkling clean one- and two-bed apartments. Shelves are lined with interesting books, and huge windows flood the high-ceilinged rooms with that very special Lisbon light. Bag the penthouse and you’ll get a stunning view to boot: Castelo de São Jorge to the north, the cathedral to the east and the Tagus River beyond a sea of terracotta rooftops. Fridges are filled with pastries and fresh orange juice for breakfast (wonderful) but the real highlight is padding downstairs to Prado, the strictly seasonal, forever trendy sister restaurant — they only serve organic, biodynamic, and natural wines, and some of the dishes are very inventive. For a more laid back and equally fun experience, down the road is Prado Mercearia. A deli/grocery store/wine bar/bistro you can stock your apartment’s well equipped kitchenette or stay for a plate of ham and cheese, before wandering further into the beautiful Baixa area and beyond.
