The village of Tarporley is mentioned in the Doomsday Book but with only 8 dwellings. Today, it is a very different place - a bustling village in smart Cheshire, not far from Chester, with a reputation as a fashion mecca with many independent shops and boutiques plus restaurants, pubs and places to stay. In fact, in 2023, it was named as one of the best places to live in the UK - The Swan is at the centre of it all. Originally built in 1769, The Swan has been refurbished many times most recently in 2020, but it still retains the olde world charm of a bygone era. The ground floor is made up of the cosy bar and sprawling restaurant, while up above and in the annexe at the rear are 19 bedrooms, comfortable, homely but not luxurious for this is a coaching inn, not a luxe resort. But it is the restaurant and pub which really make The Swan - good food, good drink and a friendly and efficient team; even when it's busy the staff seem to have the time to help and the help comes with a smile. Stay here on a road trip or for a few nights to enjoy the Cheshire countryside, the Sandstone Trail and Beeston Castle, all of which are on your doorstep.
