Ideal for the airport, The Trident, Gurugram is by no means an airport hotel. A modern reimagining of a Mughal Palace, Delhi’s original resort hotel retains its sense of serenity. Brilliant staff, superb dining, and an indulgent spa to relax even the most jaded traveller. Everything is slightly larger-than-life: cavernous colonnades and double story doors, with polish brass snakes for handles, add a touch of the exotic to its otherwise modern design. Part of The Oberoi chain, despite the lower price-tag, there is no drop in service. All-day dining at Cilantro is superb. The décor in all is refined, shimmering silks in cream and blue, with towering upholstered headboards, and photography of Delhi’s sights. Earthy marble-clad bathrooms include power showers and bespoke Kama orange-blossom toiletries. There is a very inviting indigo blue pool, surrounded by champa trees, and a well-equipped gym. Complimentary yoga classes, held at the adjoining Oberoi hotel, usually only have a few participants and are very good.
