“A restaurant with rooms set close to the beach in pretty Alnmouth. Rural chic rooms feature pastel hues, modern art, and stylish modern fabrics. The buzzing restaurant serves very good seasonal British dishes and there's a convivial bar too. A smart coastal stay suited to families or couples.”

Hotel review

On the main street of one of Northumberland’s prettiest seaside villages, Alnmouth, and a five-minute walk from the beach, this dog-friendly restaurant-with-rooms has all the ingredients for a relaxing seaside stay. There are wood-burning stoves in the ground floor bar and restaurant, a menu that highlights local seafood, real ales and local gins on the drinks list, and just ten bedrooms, many with sea views.

The Victorian building and adjoining cottage have been given a smart rustic style with tiled or wood floors, panelled walls, banquettes and spindle-back chairs, and rich sandy and blue colours to reflect the coastal setting. It can get busy – and there’s no guest lounge – as the bistro-style menu (including smoked haddock fishcakes, Northumbrian venison and pan-roast monkfish) is popular with locals. Sunday lunch is served until well into the evening.

Bedrooms are smart rustic affairs with waxed-wood furniture, wool-upholstered chairs and pale grey walls hung with a jolly assortment of artworks from classic book covers to seaside activities and vintage adverts. Some rooms have sea-views; all have bright bathrooms and refreshing showers to revive after a walk on the beach.
