This ambitious project has no doubt been a roaring success story, and what a story it is! The house dates back to 1765 and has been the property of not one but two distinguished players in America's cultural history, Myron Benton and Joel Spingarn. During their times the manor played host to Henry David Thoreau, Mark Twain, Teddy Roosevelt and Ernest Hemingway. The property has been taken over by a vivacious couple who have completely overhauled the interiors with the help of the groom's mother, the famed designer Alexandra Champalimaud. The result is an elegant and inviting country retreat set on 45 acres of stunning gardens, encompassing two water bodies, a tennis court, a swimming pool and a walled garden. An inspirational spot if ever I found one!

"Even for a buzz-worthy, newly-renovated historic property fully reimagined by a stylish design firm, Troutbeck stands apart from any trend with over two hundred and fifty years of history."
