As you turn off the main road and drive through a pair of huge wrought iron gates you can feel Umed Bhawan Palace's years of history and tradition. Peacocks, wild pigs and the odd deer roam its grounds which surround the Indo-Saracenic style architecture. Commissioned as the modern abode for Maharaja Umed Singh II it has entertained every dignitary visiting Kota. Rooms evoke all the grandeur of a bygone age and everything exists on a somewhat grandiose scale: astral chandeliers hang from cavernous ceilings adorned with ornate cornicing. Bedrooms include capacious four posters and marble clad bathrooms. Sip on aperitifs at Swinton's Bar plus there is a fine billiards room decorated with hunting trophies. Dress up for dinner at Aarogan in the smart dining hall where the menu includes European and Indian dishes. An all round regal residence.
