You arrive at this gorgeous eco-lodge, on the east bank of picturesque Inle Lake, by longtail boat – puttering along a watery avenue between floating tomato plants, waterlilies and a sea of purple and white flowers. With 20 acres of teak forest and beautiful gardens to explore, this is a great place for romantics and nature lovers. The sounds of the frogs and cicadas reverberate at night and all the trees are labelled, so you can embrace your inner botanist. The 27 stilted villas are designed to blend in with their surroundings, but they’re immaculate, with high ceilings, white curtains sweeping across huge floor-to-ceiling windows, private balconies, fresh dragonfruit on the coffee table and petals on the bed. The bathrooms, divided from the rooms by a linen door, have massive old-school bathtubs, his-and-hers basins and monsoon showers. A gong outside the door epitomises the quality of service here. There’s also a brand-new swimming pool, a superb spa (try the royal Shan traditional body massage or the tamarind honey body scrub) and excellent food, made with ingredients from the organic garden, to top it all off.
