About Saarland
Amongst Germany’s smallest states, the verdant Saarland borders Luxembourg to the west, and France to the south. A land of densely forested hills, descending into the valley of the mighty Saar River, it’s a wonderful region for ramblers and nature lovers. The banks of the river are dotted with towns and villages, as well as the city of Saarbrücken — the region’s capital. The region’s other fascinating cultural hub is lovely Saarlouis, a fortified town built by the French King in 1680. A charming spot, it’s also well worth exploring.
