About Nasu

Just an hour from Tokyo by high-speed train, Nasu is a brilliant weekend getaway destination. Swap the buzz of the city for the rejuvenating beauty of the glorious Nasu Highlands as a couple or with friends and family. Set in the shadow of Mount Nasu, this unspoilt region invites outdoorsy travellers to hike, ski, swim and unwind in restful natural hot springs. There is a small but growing choice of accommodation options in the area, with the best places to stay in Nasu offering a fabulous array of activities.

Home to around 25,000 people, Nasu is primarily a hot spring town. It also has an excellent reputation for producing delectable cheese and craft beer. Spend your days admiring the area’s natural wonders on scenic hikes, mountain bike tours and horse rides, before returning to feast on organic cusine. Fishing and swimming excursions are also lovely, as is skiing in the winter months. Thrill-seeking kids will love Nasu Highland Park, whilst culture buffs should make a beeline for the Fujishiro Seiji Museum. The Nasu Imperial Villa, the exclusive annual retreat of the Japanese royal family for almost a century, reflects the enduring magic of the region.

The Nasu Highlands are at their most striking in the autumn, when the leaves are changing from green to red and gold. Soak up magical views of the forest whilst hiding away at our pick of the best places to stay in Nasu.
