About Mancora

Mancora is a beach town located on the northern coast of Peru. It is known for its surfing, kitesurfing, and windsurfing but also for its laid back vibe and buzzing nightlife — plus the beaches here are some of the best in Peru. Máncora’s main attraction is its long, sandy Playa de Máncora, backed by swaying palm trees and lined with seafood restaurants and lively bars. This is a great place to unwind with friends or family, or to take surfing and kayaking lessons, though probably not in December and January, when waves can be huge. You’ll also find excellent diving, snorkelling and fishing opportunities in the area. Kitesurfing is a popular activity that can be enjoyed in a few different locations. For nature lovers, humpback whales and dolphins can be spotted from the shore at certain times of the year.

Travel information

  • The nearest airport to Mancora is either Talara (to the south) or Tumbes (to the north), both of which can be reached by flights from Lima. They are around 1hr 15mins from Mancora.

  • Mancora enjoys a sunny year round climate, though it can be seriously hot during the summer months (December to April), and this is when the most rainfall occurs. The best time to visit is probably either spring or autumn when the average highs stay around 30°C.
