About Ollantaytambo

Only a short drive from Cusco, Ollantaytambo is a small town nestled into the Sacred Valley of the Incas, astride the beautiful Urubamba river. Unsurprisingly, there are many stunning examples of ancient Incan terraced architecture in the town. It’s also a popular starting point for three to four day treks along the famous Inca Trail, ending at the spectacular Machu Picchu.

However, even before you embark on the Inca trail, there's plenty to do and see in and around Ollantaytambo itself. For example, you will find some incredible Incan ruins at the Archaeological Park Ollantaytambo nearby or you can take a guided horse ride up to the Pumamarca Ruins, for spectacular views. For chocoholics, there's a fascinating chocolate musem here too - the Chocomuseo - where you can also learn to make the stuff. Ollantaytambo also once served as a capital for the leader of the country’s resistance against the conquistadors, Mano Inca. Whether chocolate had anything to do with it - who knows...
