About Valencia Region
Encompassing the Valencia, Alicante and Castellón provinces, the Valencia region is a land bordered by rugged hills to one side, and the warm waters of the Mediterranean Sea on the other. Whether you’re planning a city break in Valencia, or a memorable road trip along the towns and villages of the picturesque Costa Blanca, this is a fascinating part of Spain to discover. The region’s multi-layered history and rich culinary traditions are reflected in its characterful accommodation options, which range from intimate B&Bs to striking food-focused hotels. Whether you’re travelling as a couple or with family and friends, the best places to stay in Valencia await.
The city of Valencia is the third-largest in Spain, famed for its vibrant arts scene and marvellous array of galleries and museums. The Museum of Fine Arts, Valencia History Museum and innovative City of the Arts and Sciences are particular standouts. Guided city tours come highly recommended, as do visits to the covered Central Market, where you can fill your bags with top produce from across the region. Valencia has a brilliant buzz in the evenings, and you’ll find trendy bars and gourmet eateries aplenty.
Venture into the hills on hiking, cycling and horse riding excursions, or head south to discover a Mediterranean coastline studded with fishing villages and ancient towns, such as lovely Altea. The Costa Blanca’s whitewashed houses are very charming, though perhaps best explored in spring or autumn, when you can expect fewer crowds. Alicante itself, often stereotyped as a party hotspot, has a great foodie scene and a number of impressive heritage landmarks, too. Some of the best places to stay in the Valencia region are within the city itself.

For Couples
- Hotel Abaco is a lovely little B&B with inviting rooms fusing classic charm with modern comforts. Housed in a former 18th-century bakery in Altea, this boutique bolthole has stacks of character — further enhanced by the owner's own artwork, and the friendly feel of the communal areas.
- Hotel Palacete S. XVII is an adults-only base in Alicante. Interiors blend the building's original features with more contemporary touches in blue-grey and cream tones. The Mediterranean restaurant is excellent — as are the cocktails. Perfect for couples exploring the city.
- La Serena promises a grown-up getaway, with an adults only policy and plenty of sophisticated style. Chic rooms and suites are decorated in pale blue and cream tones, and the best have private sea-facing balconies. - Cuatre Finques is an idyllic rural escape with nine ensuite guest rooms in the Xalo Valley. Romantic and secluded, the hotel is also available for exclusive use by small groups of friends, or for intimate celebrations. Brilliant for romantic couples as well as families hoping to hit the beach.
For Rural Charm

- Finca E Tossal has the feel of a warm, Mediterranean villa, with large sun-drenched terraces and draped four-poster beds in airy guest rooms. An intimate rural retreat, it's perfect for romantics and keen foodies, who will appreciate the four-course menus. A restful escape from the real world.
- El Jardin Vertical is a charming rural hotel overlooking green valleys and red-tiled rooftops. Enjoy traditional fare on ivy-clad terraces after big days of adventure in the surrounding hills.
- La Escondida is a restored 17th-century manor house with beautifully decorated rooms and suites. Undoubtely one of the area's most magical hotels, this rural hideaway invites couples and friends to relax by the pool, gather for terrific tapas and meander through hundreds of acres of olive groves and farmland. Fabulous.
For Foodies
- Casa del Maco, a striking 18th-century finca near Benissa, has been lovingly restored to showcase its original architecture. Unwind in one of four rooms after a gastronomic feast at the acclaimed onsite restaurant. The cuisine is French and Belgian inspired, fused with Mediterranean flavours to create innovative dishes, expertly paired with wines chosen by the hotel sommelier.
- Hospes Amérigo is a slick city hotel in Alicante, complete with smart white-on-white interiors and a rooftop swimming pool just 300 metres from the beach. The Michelin-recommended Monastrell Restaurant focuses on fresh seafood and has its own market garden. Expect an ever-changing menu of seasonal delights.
For Cutting-Edge Cool
