About Delft

Delft prides itself on representing the "real Holland", without the crowds that throng Amsterdam and The Hague. This picturesque small city offers a charming, appealingly walkable centre, lined with canals and chic cafés for long lazy lunches. Heritage aficionados will be fascinated by the city’s rich heritage — from the burial place of Vermeer to the inspiration behind the famed blue-and-white ceramics. Our Gurus’ selection of the best places to stay in Delft includes stylish boutique properties, fusing old-world charm with modern comforts to create brilliant boltholes in a very special city.

Amble along pedestrianised streets to admire trendy boutiques, pick up fun finds at bric-a-brac markets, or step into the 13th-century Oude Kerk, where the painted Jan Vermeer was buried, and the Prinsenhof; site of William of Orange’s murder. The Royal Delft Factory, where the iconic ceramics have been produced since the 17th century, offers fantastic tours, as well as ceramic-making workshops. Clamber up the Nieuwe Kerk’s tower for striking city views, hop aboard a canal boat to glide through Delft, or savour craft beers in the sunshine.

Ideally located between Rotterdam and The Hague, Delft is well-connected for day trips to neighbouring cities, or walking and cycling excursions into the surrounding countryside. An enchanting example of the Netherlands’ warm hospitality and intriguing history, it’s a wonderful destination. The best places to stay in Delft can fill up fast, particularly during the summer months. Book your trip well in advance!
