About Salisbury
Salisbury is a famous cathedral city, picturesquely set in a sunken valley on the edge of the Salisbury Plain, in green Wiltshire countryside — just eight kilometres from Stonehenge. It's a pretty city of historic architecture, independent boutiques, gourmet restaurants and friendly pubs — indeed some of the best places to stay in Salisbury are historic inns turned pubs-with-rooms.
Salisbury cathedral is one of the leading examples of early English Gothic architecture, it’s got a spire 123 metres tall, and it’s home to one of only four surviving copies of the Magna Carta. Stonehenge is an incredible, mysterious prehistoric stone circle that’s impossible to properly get your head around without seeing in the flesh! The town also has an impressive museum, in the Grade I listed, King’s House, with a permanent collection of artefacts from Stonehenge. Salisbury is also the location of Arundells, the former home of Sir Edward Heath turned museum, and an impressive collection of ancient and more modern churches.
All around the town are routes into beautiful countryside, and because of this, the best places to stay in Salisbury are ideal for keen walkers or anyone wanting a country getaway.
