Founded in 1839, along with the Republic of Texas, Austin is home to the impressive red granite Texas State Capitol. Encircled by 22 acres of grounds studded with statues and monuments, this is an excellent place for an amble. Don’t miss the Bob Bullock Texas State History Museum or the LBJ Presidential Library. Little ones will be fascinated by the exhibits at The Thinkery, an innovative arts and science museum.
