About Prescott

Featuring a historic downtown district full of Victorian buildings and a tree-lined plaza, Prescott sits amidst the striking mountains of northern Arizona. Friendly and easy-going, this is a fantastic destination for nature-loving adventurers, as well as travellers looking to sample the city’s famous bar scene, or pop into intriguing shops and galleries. Accommodation options include intimate B&Bs and a classic Art Deco hotel, fit for a range of tastes and budgets. The best places to stay in Prescott are clustered close to the city centre, perfect for exploring on foot.

Perched over 5000ft above sea level, Prescott is surrounded by the forested slopes of granite mountains, criss-crossed with shimmering lakes and rivers. Spend your days hiking, mountain biking and horse riding; take guided wildlife tours, or try your hand at fishing and kayaking. Iconic Thumb Butte makes for a great hike, whilst summer excursions on Lynx Lake and Watson Lake are especially lovely. Prescott is also home to the world’s oldest rodeo, held annually in late June and early July — a terrific chance to experience the old West.

Prescott is home to three of Arizona’s finest museums: The Phippen Museum of Western Art, the Sharlot Hall Museum and the Museum of Indigenous People. All are well worth visiting. Historic tours of the city, including visits to heritage homes, are also deservedly popular. Don’t miss ambling along Antique Row or joining the monthly Friday Art Walk. Finally, pick a perch along Whiskey Row, near the Courthouse Square. Studded with old saloons and quirky bars, this is an idyllic spot for drinks and dinner, and close to many of the best places to stay in Prescott.
